Variate proposed a new interactive system that enables customers to explore, learn, share and socialize through a new interactive experience.
Variate Labs was approached early on to create a proposal for a new interactive wine bar concept in China. This project would set a new standard in how customers could customize their wine experience through personal preferences.

Flexible Wine Apps
The core concept behind our design was to create a suite of “Wine Apps” that would enable customers to explore and learn about wines through a variety of different means. At any time a customer could navigate to a different wine experience. Search would be the default application for new users (shown) and enables customers to explore wines based on their attributes. At all times, anywhere in the interface, recommended wines (based on personal selections and what others are drinking) would be shown. This “Wine App” system is an original concept and enables the brand maximum flexibility to customize the experience to individual people and for specific events.

Wine Details
At all times, throughout the interface, customers can select individual wines and see the full details about these wines. From the detail screens customers can explore other wines that share the same characteristics.

Personalized Experience
This immersive wine experience would work in conjunction with an RFID based card system that allows for all decisions and favorite wines to be stored on a personal customer profile. By placing a card on the table, customers can unlock special “Wine Apps” that enable them to further explore wines in a fun way. Social media profiles would also be stored with individual customer profiles and would enable customers to share their wine experience with friends through social networks.

Dynamic Attract State
When the table was not in use, it would show an attract state that would graphically connect customers in the space. Hearts would animate from glass-to-glass and would each represent an individual tweet about the brand. The more discussions that were taking place around the brand the more content on the table.

Color
Color is critical to understanding wines. The table itself would showcase a dynamic color that would represent the popularity of red wines versus white wine at any time. The table would act as a dynamic barometer of wine drinking in the space.

Integrated Experience
As part of this proposal, Variate designed a number of different table configuration options. These options showcased various configurations that would affect the way that people experience the networked table system. Variate built table mockups to explore sizes of interface objects and customer accessibility.

Off-the-Shelf Technologies
As part of this proposal, Variate suggested multiple off-the-shelf technologies that could be used to create an immersive network experience. These images show one potential technology, the Microsoft Surface Table 2.0.
To date this proposal has not been built.
